Recipe for a traditional Cuban "Cafe con Leche"

Cafe con Leche by Reina Resto (via google images)

My best friend (let's just refer to her as "Miguel") has continually bugged me asked me to share my grandmother's famous and delicious "café con leche" recipe with her in the hopes of recreating one of our favorite after-school snacks.

Here it is, "Miguel". Drink up, chica!

Ingredients:
  • milk (whole is preferable)
  • Cuban coffee (please, do not use "instant" espresso powder. Ick!)
  • sugar
  • salt
Prepare a batch of Cuban coffee ahead of time (morning leftovers will work just fine). Next, boil a cup of milk (DO NOT MICROWAVE IT). Take your cup and add (3) teaspoons of regular sugar, 1/2 teaspoon (or as my grandmother used to call it "una pisquita") of salt and  2-3(light) or 4-5(dark) teaspoons of Cuban coffee. Once the milk boils, add it to the rest of the ingredients and stir a few times.

That's it. Easy and delicious. Even if you're not Cuban, you'll love starting your day out with this honored Cuban staple. Goes great with a couple of slices of pound cake (Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Yellow cake mix is phenomenal) or Sara lee pound cake found in the freezer section of your local grocery store will suffice.

Thanks, abuela, for the many café con leches you made for me over the years. I loved every one of them. I know you're making every one in heaven a daily dose.
